July 18th, 2010July found the Schneller family at the first annual Haliburton Sportsman's Show. In addition to manning a booth and leading sessions on the Seminar Stage, we provided an archery range which gave many the opportunity to try archery for the first time. We truly enjoyed the opportunity to see so many of our friends from previous visits to the area, and to meet so many great future archers.

We had thought that the kids of the ESA (Eco Social Action) Club were excited last year. You should have seen this year's response, it required two program sessions to accommodate everyone! All the participants were very eager to learn and upgrade their archery skills. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces from last year's visit. A special thank-you to Ms. Wood and Ms. Polevoy for inviting us back and this awesome group of kids for another sucess filled program. Hope to see you again next year!

Bruce's first full time job was as Archery Director at Camp Pine Crest, so it was an honor for all of us to return for the anniversary. Despite the wet weather, it was truly an awesome day. Thanks to Leanne for inviting us to be part of this wonderful celebration and to Evelyn, Michele, Kevin, Rachael and Rita for making it happen. Congrats Camp Pine Crest!!!

Rachael and Bruce took the day to visit West Seneca West High School and teach archery to four Physical Education Classes. With the help of Intermediate Instructor Bob and Certified Instructor Josh, a large number of students were able to improve their skills significantly. Special thanks to Mr. Schreiner who made arrangements for the day. In a word, it was awesome. What a great school!

Not the rain, snow or ice pellets could dampen the spirt of this group of Archers. An intensive day of study and practise resulted in not only everyone receiving their certifications, but also one of the highest class averages on the written exam. Way to go team! Keep up the great work and put your excellent facilty to good use.

The second weekend in May found the entire Schneller family in the Town of Haliburton. First stop was the Secondary School to give an afternoon archery session to the Outdoor Education Class. Derek Little runs an incredible program educating students in a great many of the outdoor skills. We are very proud to have been able to participate in this great program and wish Derek and his students all the very best with their program in the future.

It is indeed true that times are changing. USA Archery has updated it's coaching system and it was time for Bruce to go back to school. In addition to lectures on Neurofeedback, Sports Psychology and Periodization, were presentations by Coach Dee on Community Coaching and Coach Lee on the BEST Method. There was lots of practical work too! The course concluded with written exams, class presentations and practical testing. Bruce successfully competed the requirements to be certified as a Community Coach, a Regional Coach and a Community Coach Leader.

Yesterday our family had the privledge of spending the day with the Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club at their annual campout in Coldwater. Our archery session followed a presentation on wildlife calling! What an amazing group of people, who do some outstanding work! Five of the group's mentors had recently been certifed as archery instructors and they eagerly went to work teaching form and shot execution to this fine group of youth. In the end, our job was merely to assist the Instructors! The skill level of the group improved dramatically during the course of the session and certainly proved the value of having skilled instructors involved. Thanks for a great day...next year we won't have breakfast before we arrive...those pancakes looked good!

If you are an outdoors women, then Kinark Outdoors Centre was the place to be Sept. 11-13! The 2009 Edition of "WOW" was a huge success which the 80 plus women in attendence would certainly attest to. All of the attendees had participated in and many enthusiastically expressed high praises for this year's archery instruction and archery range program. Rita, Rachael and Michele had an absolutely awesome time meeting and working with the women on the range. This is a women's only weekend - where women mentor and instruct women. Many thanks go to Alisha for her support and to all of the WOW participants.

New Lowell was the place to be today. Sunny and warm with just enough of a breeze to keep the bugs down and 50+ Girl Guides to try their hand at archery. Turns out we had met a number of the girls earlier in the year when we gave archery sessions to their local groups. And they hadn't forgotten a thing! Many of the brave leaders showed up for our lunch hour tutorial and had a great time as well. It was awesome to see so many of our old friends and of course, to meet so many new ones.

This event sold out in mere hours! We met many new friends and got to visit with many old ones. The archery program continues to grow with the skill level rising appreciably. Former campers are now certified Instructors and help us with this event. Many campers have taken our instruction and gone on to purchase their own equipment and take up the sport of archery! We are looking forward to seeing everyone again next year and hearing about your great archery experiences!

Rita and Bruce are just back from the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where they had the privledge to participate in a High Performance Coaching Seminar. Archery coaches from all over the United States, Canada, Korea and Great Britian were in attendance. In addition to training in the Best Method with Coach Kisik Lee, sessions were also presented by Dr. Peter Hamberl on Sports Psychology, by John Crawley on a systematic approach to athlete development, and by Dr. KooHyoung Lee on psychophysiology in archery. It was an absolute pleasure to see old friends and to meet so many new ones, all fine archery coaches. We look forward to doing this again next year!

It was a total surprise!
Here is a photo of Bruce receiving the Larrry Wallace Memorial Award from OFAH Vice-President Bill Blackwell at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters 80th Annual Meeting. This "Award is given to the person who has ensured the future of conservation by sharing their knowledge and love of the great outdoors with today's youth," stated Mr. Blackwell. In introducing Bruce to the 500 attendees at the Awards banquet, Mr. Blackwell said," This gentleman believes in children experiencing the outdoors first hand and in collaborative team building through positive relationships, feedback, and shared successes. His involvement with the OFAH Get Outdoors provincial program has enabled him to make a difference in the lives of many youth. His list of achievements and involvement in youth programs is very impressive indeed, but the one he is most passionate about is archery. He believes that archery is a means to an end with that end being youth developing patience, discipline, concentration skills and confidence, enabling them to become fine leaders and even better conservationists. His numerous letters of recommendation for this award show just how much he is appreciated and his passion when it comes to teaching youth."
